CONFERENCE
The transmission of knowledge amongst the moriscos
.

by Abu Omar Yabir Villar al Garnati

The conference aims to explore the transmission and survival of a way of life, in fact a way of understanding the world by the bringing together of sciences and knowledge that were unappreciated and vigorously condemned and persecuted by the new institutions of knowledge.

The persecution of the Moriscos, after the fall of the last muslim kingdom of the Iberian peninsula, coincides with the apparition of a new humanist academic paradigm, the Renaissance. In the Sixteenth Century the establishment of the Universities brought in a new era with regards to the transmission of knowledge. This was the beginning of a new model of understanding, void of the presence of God.

The Renaissance declared as superstition many of the sciences that existed amongst the Moriscos. At an academic level they were negated, a negation of the islamic tradition of Al Andalus which was to have its consequences, the repercussions of which remain with us today.
