Visit from Turkey
Tuesday the 7th of December 2004
Under
a majestic sky, before the wondrous Alhambra, and the white peaks
of the Sierra Nevada, the Mosque of Granada welcomed a very special
group of 85 people from Turkey.

This
special group of men and women of different walks of life including
lawyers, journalists, professors, businessmen, and a large number
of members of the Turkish Parliament, have spent several days visiting
the important historic sights of Islamic Al-Andalus, including Seville
and Cordoba, finally arriving in Granada

They
expressed great joy at being welcomed by a lively and committed
community of European muslims. They also took great pleasure in
walking around the Mosque gardens with its splendid views of the
Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada.

Abdulhasib
Castiñeira, Director of Granada Mosque, personally conducted
a thorough tour of the complex explaining the history and programme
of the Centre. The tour included some of the daily activities that
were taking place at the time.

The
Visitors were impressed with the high standards achieved by the
young children in Quran studies, conducted by the Imam of the Mosque.
The tour also included the Centres Library facility, conference
Hall and exhibition areas.

After
praying travelling prayers in jamat the group sat down in the mosque
for some Quran recitation and a discourse from the Imam. Many of
the group made it clear that they would have liked to stay for longer
in Granada and in particular in the Mosque and Centre.

The
staff at Granada Mosque made a firm connection to the group and
looks to, strengthen its new ties by organising future visits and
events for future groups from Turkey.

The visit of this important group of Turkish Muslims will remain
one of the most memorable visits that the Mosque of Granada has
had the pleasure to host.
